#outdoors
This was so much fun last night, let's do it on the next double blue moon!
When there are 2 full moons in one month, the second is called a "blue moon". That is what is happening on March 31st. Bonus - if it is clear we will be able to see Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn. No Venus this time.
Pace: 3 / 5
Distance: 20 - 30 Km.
Hilliness: 1
Terrain: All paved roads. E-Bikes welcome!
We'll meet down by the water at Harling Point, see map, right. Watch the sun set, try to find Mercury and then watch the moon rise. Followed by a ride around the coast to Willows Beach for more moon viewing and head back to town for some refreshment.
"head back to town" in this case means a bit of a ride with 3 surprises!
Functioning and charged lights please!
Repeat of the "Getting there" instructions:
Go to the end of Penzance road and turn right through the gate (please lock up bikes along the fence) and follow the path down to the water. We will be to the left, on the rocks, soaking up the sun.
More on "blue moons". There are 12 and a third lunar cycles every year, so a blue moon will only occur, on average, once every 3 years. 2018 is extremely odd in that, due to February with only 28 days being right after the blue moon of January, there is another blue moon in March. 2 in 1 year. This won't happen again until 2037. We'll have to do this again then!
(It is all really utterly meaningless, just based on the vagaries of our calendar, the moon doesn't turn blue! But a great excuse for a night ride with a bit of a show - sunset, moon rise and Venus.)
